Liberty Pumps 257 is a 1/3HP Automatic Submersible Sump Pump with with magnetically operated vertical float VMF switch and 10ft power cord. Turn-on level of the not adjustable switch is 7" and turn-off level is 3-1/2". This pump can operate in a smaller 10" diameter sump pit.

The Liberty Pumps 257 has 1-1/2" NPT discharge, 1/2" solids-handling, 18' shut-off head, a unique one-piece cast iron housing and thermally protected & permanently lubricated motor.

This Vertical Magnetic Float (VMF) model is not recommended for effluent applications due to their short On/Off cycle. Wide angle float models (Liberty Pumps 251 and 253) are better suited for effluent applications and are easily adjustable for different On/Off levels.

For added protection, consider the addition of a back-up pump such as Liberty's SJ10 SumpJet, as well as an alarm such as Liberty's ALM-2 in applications where loss of pump function could result in property damage. If an alarm is used, it must be connected to a separate electrical circuit.

CAUTION: Do not let the pump run dry.

Quality and built like a tank
On the hunt for a new sump pump after my cheap box store pump failed due to corrosion, I read a number of plumbing and builder web sites for recommendations, which were evenly split between Zoeller and Liberty. Also learned from them for my application in a 11" diameter cast-in sump, I needed a pump with vertical float. The downside of the Zoeller was premature switch failure, so I chose the Liberty 257 with 10' cord. Surprisingly, with the great deal from Pexuniverse, the Liberty wasn't any more expensive than a box store pump. The Liberty really surprised me with the quality of the build - fit and finish - the powder coat looks good and the unit is very solid with surprising heft. Installed in the sump with a 1.5" Schedule 40 PVC stack and checkvalve, it is much quieter than my old pump. And when it turns on, it blasts water out of the pipe and onto the lawn like a fire hose! The old pump had a wide-angle float and on a couple of occasions became caught between the pump housing and sump wall - so I had to manually trigger the pump when the sump flooded. I have no such worry with the Liberty with vertical float. It sits in the middle of the sump with good clearance all the way around. This is the kind of pump Tim the Tool Man Taylor would own.

Very quiet pump
Replaced my other sump pump because of noise through whole home. The new pump is quiet, you have to hold the pipe to know when it runs.

Fast and Quiet pump
Amazing how quiet it is, it emptied the full sump in about 30 seconds, and if I wasn't standing right over it I'm sure I wouldn't have even known it was on. So far so good!

Happy customer
So far - GREAT! Very pleased with Pex Universe's communication and fast delivery. Pump is very quiet, and was easy to install. Hoping it outlasts the last brand we were using which has proven to have switch problems over time. Off to a great start! (Thank you!)

Can't find one better
I use the pump in my yard in a low spot to help remove rain waters on my 5 acre property in South Florida! I had my last liberty pump 7 years. Although it is not used alot, it would be interesting to know how many hours I actually used it. My last pump failed to start when the float engaged. Unfortunately, it would of cost more to repair! I have tryed other pumps over 18 years and I like this one the best and is why I bought another one!
