Ask a Question
Three questions: 1. If this pump is installed between a water heater and a fixture, with a return line from the fixture to the water heater, will the fixture be able to draw water with the pump turned off? 2. Will this damage the pump? 3. Are any check valves or air purge devices required for this installation? Thanks!
1. Yes. If pump is installed on a dedicated return line, hot water supply would function as usual even if the pump is turned off.
2. No.
3. Check valve is usually installed on the dedicated return line. Air vent/purge is not needed as long as pump is not installed at the highest point in the system.

How do I bypass to get hot water when the power is out?
If your system is capable of supplying hot water in the event of a power outage, the hot water supply will function normally even if the power goes out, but without a recirculation feature. The same applies both for systems with and without a dedicated hot water return line. This means that you may have to open the hot water valve on the faucet and wait until the water from the heater reaches it, the old fashioned way.

The direction of flow on the pump - should the flow be toward the fixture or the hot water heater?
For domestic hot water recirculation purposes, it can be either. On the return side (to the water heater), the temperature will always be lower, so it's preferred.

Can this be sweated without disassembly?
Yes. The pump can be sweated without taking it apart.

How do I reset if the pump has stopped working.
If you have the pump controlled by a switching relay (such as Taco SR series) or an aquastat (Honeywell), you would need to reset the power to the relay/aquastat.
