Glad I found this.
"I always like to support industry pioneers, especially when they don't take their status for granted. The price point of this tank is exceptional, and Amtrol components have been essential parts of my closed-loop solar system for years. After adding a 3rd panel, the need for a pressure relief buffer developed when our system would maximize at 180 and panel boil-off at shutdown and drainback would occur. This pressure spike would trigger our 20# pressure relief valve, resulting in compounding loss of circulating fluid. This looks to be the perfect physical fit and solution, with minimal modifications necessary to the existing layout. Quality seems excellent."

I'm not a professional...but this replaces a bad expansion tank perfectly. Super fast shipping had it ready for my boiler repairman. Highly recommend product, and PexUniverse.

Ask a Question
can i use this tank upside down on a 5o gal water heater?residential use
Helpful? Yes No
For a residential water heater you would need a Therm-X-Trol ST-5 model (part# 140N43). As for mounting, the standard practice is to install the tank "hanging" down, with water connection pointing up, but a small model such as this can be installed above the pipe, provided that the tank is secured from movement.

Should this tank be used on the closed side of a radiant heating system instead of the domestic water Amtrol ST-5? On the open side I am using a Amtrol ST-5 but the closed side requires a lot less psi @12.
Helpful? Yes No
You will need to use the tank on the closed side of the radiant as well. Size of the tank can be determined using Amtrol guidelines in the Brochure (see "Literature" tab).

Hi, Is there a way I can test my Amtrol 15 tank to know if the bladder is still good? Been having some problems with my floor heat. We fixed a leaky pipe but still don't have any pressure. Thinking I would put 15 psi in it and see if it sticks. Is that the best way to test that? How soon would I know if the bladder is working? Thanks

The air valve on the expansion tank is Schrader type, so a regular gauge used to check tire pressure could be used.

Can I use this tank for my domestic hot water and can this tank be mounted sideways instead of vertical
Helpful? Yes -2 No
No and no. The Extrol series is for closed loop heating applications only. These tanks are for vertical installation only since horizontal mounting will create uneven pressure at the connection. For domestic hot water applications, you'll need Therm-X-Trol series.
