This model is designed for up to 2-stage heat / 2-stage cool gas, oil or electric-powered heating systems with air conditioner or 2-stage heat / 1-sate cool heat pumps with aux heat. It can also be used for heat-only or cool-only applications. Honeywell TH5220D1029 Focus PRO 5000 Thermostat Good thermostat! Priced right! This thermostat was recommended by my HVAC repairman. It is non-programmable (set it and leave it) and easy to use. It is recommended in the installation and setup booklet that a trained professional install. I second the recommendation as not every one knows what each wire function is and improper installation can damage your heat and air unit. I like that the box indicates that this product will work with up to 2 stage heat and 2 stage cool, heat pump. mine is a 2H/1C unit. The programmable thermostat that I replaced had developed a mind of its own and would not keep a constant temperature in my house regardless of where I set it too. I think that programmable thermostats have a tendency to become erratic over time.
