Description

The Grundfos Comfort UP 10-16 PM Auto range sets new standards for energy-efficient hot water recirculation in residential homes. Thanks to a low noise permanent magnet motor, energy consumption is reduced to as little as 5-8.5 W. Utilizing AUTOADAPT ensures the pump only runs when required, so the result is maximum comfort with lower wait times for hot water as well as reducing water and electrical waste.

Great Pump but laughable instructions
The pump should come with the Unions but it doesn't so pay close attention to the fine print. Add $25 to the price and that's the total package. The entire instructions are done in icons drawn by someone in another Country. Absolutely incomprehensible. I still figured out how to install and basically guessed at what the "Auto" setting does. The pump does cycle on and off which is what I predicted. Also completely silent.

Nearly silent, energy efficient, what more could you want
Installation is in a 5,000 sq ft 3-story home with a return line run from the farthest point (top floor MBR) to the basement water heater. The pump was installed at the heater to push water into the drain line fitting in the bottom of the tank.The pump is nearly silent in operation; you have to get within a foot or two to hear it at all. It also draws only 5.5 watts according to my watt meter, which is only $5 a year in SC. And it works well, we now have only a few seconds wait for hot water where before it was nearly 2 minutes.HINT - if the pump makes any noise there is air in the line. That will not only cause excessive wear on the pump but it will not circulate water, as it is stuck with a big air bubble in the pump. Purge the air out until the pump goes quiet and it will work great.

The Pump works as advertised. There is a "bleed screw" on the side of the Pump housing that has no references in any literature I can find. I'm sure there is a reason for it, but cannot find reference to it anywhere. The Pump requires an Installation Kit (3/4" Sweat - P/N: 529911 Cost: ~$23) which is also not mentioned anywhere in the literature.

Concerned that this pump may not work due to 2 story house and a more limited water head of 3.9 ft. vs the older pump at 4.9 ft. I reoriented the old pump and it is still working for now. The original installation had the pump mounted in the vertical pipe run. I switched it to horizontal as that seems the be preferred due to the magnetic pump element sitting on the spindle where it is harder to jam up.
