No issues with this product so far.
I installed this product into the concrete slabs on my new home and other than one cut where a guy got a little too close with a chainsaw, I have had no leaks so far. You do have to be a little careful to not kink the product since the aluminum layer tends to hold whatever shape you bend it to, but this was only when I wasn't paying attention. If you use your hands to form the bends, there isn't any issue.

Retrofitting
I've installed both PEX and ONIX in retrofits as staple ups. Often times in a retrofit you don't have an open joist bay because of wires, pipes, or framing that crosses the joist bay below the floor where you need to install the tubing. With ONIX in particular, but PEX too if its reasonably warm, its possible to feed the tubing in an ever enlarging U from one end of the joist bay, through the gap between the bottom of the floor and those barriers. Since PEX-AL-PEX is pretty stiff and doesn't bend easily, its not possible (or certainly not easy) to do that if the joist bay is 16" on center. In antique houses with wide joist bays made from half logs or heavy framing, and in the wider bays, like 24"+, it is possible. So if you going to retrofit staple-up in a conventionally framed house you might be better off using PEX or ONIX because they are more flexible. Other than that I really liked the product - holding its shape, the low expansion rate compared to PEX, and the must lower cost compared to ONIX are great features.

PEX-AL-PEX is easy to work with
I have installed this in my 1700 SF house with the sandwich system above the subfloor. It snaps into the Omega style aluminum heat panels installed between the 3/4 plywood sleepers. This PEX holds its shape and takes just one person to get the tubing installed. I am a DIY person and my original reason for getting PEX AL PEX was its reduced expansion and contraction with temperature changes. (eliminates ticking) . Another thing I did before installing was to use a foam brush and put a thin coat of silicone in the channel of the heat panels.

Pez AL
Great product, takes a little while to get the hang of pulling through joists without kinking, but worth the effort, quieter and better heat transfer than standard Pex.

Great product!
PEX-AL-PEX is getting harder to find, and this will work perfectly for my small shop air system.

Nice stuff
The only thing I wish it had length marking on it. It's hard to measure out 300' runs. I thought it had distance markers on it but it doesn't. Other than that it is nice to work type AL. fewer issues with kinking and forms nicely to the path you put it in (stays exacly where you put it) which is unlike type a or b.
Reply from PexUniverse:
Thanks for your comments, Steve! The pipe IS actually marked every 5ft - it's at the end of the imprint with standards, approvals and other technical stuff.

The stiffness is a plus...
Due to the aluminum layer, the tubing has stiffness but is virtually dead soft to hold a bend with very little springback. Even when my concrete crew stepped on the tube where it crossed the rebar, though slightly crushed out-of-round, it did not create a leak. Just make sure if you've never installed this product before, order the end prep tool (I wish the vendor had recommended it when I ordered the tubing). I found a very effective way to cut the tubing using a Craftsman Edge Razor cutter (or similar) and not just slicing thru but spinning it around to cut thru the first side and then thru the whole thing; significantly reduces distortion. Tubing is marked every 5 feet starting at 300 at outside of roll and counting down.

Pex-Al-Pex
Most DIYers I talk with don't even know this stuff exists. In the right situations it can be the perfect solution. The 1/2" stuff uses regular size pex fittings, but anything larger requires specialized fittings, which I found out the hard way. So, be warned because the warning is NOT on the website with the products listed.

Ask a Question
What is the bend radius?
Helpful? Yes No
Bending radius for 1/2" PEX-AL-PEX is the same as with regular 1/2" PEX pipe - 5". You can read more about bending radius here.

Does this product work with regular pex crimp connections and sharkbite fittings?
Helpful? Yes No
No. PEX-AL-PEX tubing is installed using compression type PEX fittings. Because of the dimensionals and "memory" properties of PEX-AL-PEX, regular PEX fittings (including crimp style and push-fit style such as SharkBite) will not guarantee a leak-free installation.
